The latest emerging field in science seeks to explore Physical and Chemical phenomena at smaller and smaller scales: Nanotechnology. In this effort, scientist are developing new methods for probing and controlling matter at molecular length scales.

At the heart of these efforts is molecular detection. The need to detect molecules (even single atoms) is growing in importance in industry and academia. Cantilever sensors are a potential candidate for achieving this goal. However, their use as a reliable research tool or commercial product is still not at hand.

In this lab we will seek to understand the factors that limit the reproducibility and reliability of cantilever sensors. In doing so we will make the leap from using cantilever sensors for proof of purpose experiments to using them as a reliable technology.
