Hey All,

So this week we discussed the Primitive equations and the
approximations made to arrive at them; namely:

i) The Hydrostatic Approximation
ii) The Shallow Fluid Approximation
iii) The 'Traditional` approximation

We covered the scaling that allows us to make these approximations
from the full Navier-Stokes equations along with where they break
down. I'll try to have a look around to see if I can find any good
comparisons of non-hydrostatic vs. hydrostatic but in the duration I
have found a cartoon that shows the scales the hydrostatic breaks down.

Next week Taimaz will be covering Geostrophic and thermal wind
balance; section 2.8 in Vallis.

Cheers,
Ryan
