[Atmosdyn] Resuming meetings!

Happy new year everyone! I hope you all had good breaks and a chance to
rest your brains for a bit.  :)

I would like to get our meetings going again, so we need to work out a few
organizational issues.

1.  What day and time shall we meet?  Please send me your availability, and
I'll let everyone know what appears to work.

2.  Topics of interest to cover?  I looked back at our organizational
summary in September, and we have reviewed geostrophic and thermal wind
balance, potential vorticity and quasi-geostrophic balance.  We covered new
Rossby waves and an introduction to wave mean-flow interactions.

Other topics we had originally identified as being of interest include
- the effects of topography or bathymetry and heating on dynamics
- wave mean-flow interactions and the North Atlantic eddy-driven jet
- importance of ekman spiralling and pumping to atmosphere-ocean
interactions
- atmosphere-sea ice/ocean interactions
- atmospheric dynamics in polar regions
- large-scale atmosphere and ocean circulations

To that end, I have identified a few papers that are attached to this
message.
- Held 1983 discusses the effects of topography and heating on atmospheric
circulation.
- Held 1985 discusses large-scale atmospheric circulation.
- Barnes 2011 discusses the effect of eddies on the NAtl eddy-driven jet

That's what I have so far.  Take a look at them, and let me know which are
of interest.  Please send me other papers you would be interested in
discussing as well.
