Hi everyone!
Today, we have discussed the quasigeostrophic equations (QGE) for a single-layer shallow water. These set of equations can be applied in situations when the Rossby number is small, the scale of motion is not larger than the deformation, small Coriolis variations, and an advective time scale. We derived the QGE based on the total momentum equations and the QG potential vorticity based on the shallow water momentum and mass consecration equations. The QGPV conservation allows us to understand the relation between changes in Coriolis, potential vorticity, height, and latitude.
Net week, Heather is going to discuss Rossby wave part 5.7.
Have a wonderful weekend
Thank you,
Aura
